A$AP Rocky, rapper, record producer, fashion designer and model, has found a new home in his career. The self proclaimed “Fashion Killa” has just been named the the newest global brand ambassador for luxury brand Chanel, bridging the gap between Harlem’s suave style and French Couture.
The announcement has since sent waves through the hip hop and high fashion communities over the course of the last few weeks, marking a historic chapter for the luxury house.
For A$AP Rocky, born Rakim Mayers, this partnership is less than a surprise and more of an inevitability. Having long been considered one of the most influential figures in menswear, the rapper has spent over a decade dismantling the boundary between street wear and luxury clothes.
Under Matthieu Blazy, who recently took the helm at Chanel as creative director, the brand is signaling a bold, more culturally- fluid era. This shift aligns with A$AP Rocky’s career, as he is known for using his voice to share his views in both the music and fashion world
“Rocky is an incredible artist who puts his heart and soul into every project,” Blazy said in a statement “Musician, actor, father… he brings so much to the table. We are thrilled to welcome him to Chanel.”
Rocky echoed the sentiment, praising Blazy’s “ground yet wondrous” vision for the brand. The two previously built a strong rapport during Blazy’s tenure at Bottega Veneta, which Rocky starred in multiple campaigns for. Their reunion at Chanel suggest a shift toward a more “sensitive, yet strong” aesthetic for the house.
Fans got their first taste of the collaboration last month, when Rocky was spotted on the streets of New York City, seemingly down on one knee proposing to actress Margret Qualley. While the images seemed to spark relationship rumors, it was soon revealed to be a scene from his debut campaign for the Chanel Métiers d’Art 2026 collection.
The campaign film, which officially launched on Dec. 2, highlights Rocky’s signature blend of uptown grit and dapper elegance, solidifying his role as a muse for modern men’s fashion. It was directed by Michael Gondry, who is known for his wildly visual and inventive style.
Working as a brand ambassador for Chanel is only a part of Rocky’s booming career. He is currently balancing several high profile roles, such as preparing for his fourth studio album, partnering with PUMAS F1, and philanthropy work with Bilt, a rent rewards and payments platform. This collaboration with Bilt is intended to be used to cover the January rent for all tenants in his childhood Harlem building.
In joining Chanel, Rocky follows in the footsteps of famous creators like Kanye “Ye” West and Pharell Willams. This partnership will only further cement his influence in the hip-hop community on the world stage. One thing is for certain, A$AP Rocky isn’t following trends, opting to create them instead.
