Every year, new series and movies flood our screens, and with each release, there’s always hope that one will truly stand out. Many of these shows drop on streaming platforms like MAX, and one that quickly made a name for itself is The White Lotus. Premiering in the summer of 2021—still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic—this show instantly grabbed attention with its unique blend of mystery, suspense, and drama. Like many viewers, I was hooked from the start.
Each season of The White Lotus takes us to a new, luxurious destination and follows the lives of wealthy, privileged guests—friends, families, or couples—staying at the fictional White Lotus resort. The series begins with a mysterious death, teasing a scene from the final episode, and then works backward as the story unfolds over typically eight episodes. As tensions rise, relationships strain, and secrets surface, we’re left guessing who will meet their end and why.
Season 1 took place in Hawaii, Season 2 moved to Italy, and the most recent season, Season 3, transported us to the breathtaking landscapes of Thailand. Each setting adds a distinct atmosphere, and each season has kept viewers like me on the edge of our seats. Season 3 was no exception. The stunning visuals of Thailand combined with the deepening drama made for an unforgettable watch.
In Season 3, we follow a diverse cast: a couple, three best friends, a family, and the return of Belinda, a fan-favorite character from Season 1. Each character arrives in Thailand for different reasons, but all end up on personal journeys of self-discovery. As the season progresses, the emotional tension between them escalates, pushing every relationship to its breaking point.
Now that the latest season has ended, fans are eagerly awaiting news about Season 4. Series creator Mike White has hinted that he’s considering a departure from the usual tropical setting, possibly taking the story somewhere completely different.
Although nothing has been confirmed, some rumored destinations include Japan, Mexico, or South Africa. These locations could bring fresh challenges and stories, especially if the show explores colder or more urban environments. It’s exciting to think how a shift from beaches to cities or mountains might influence the tone and plot.
Fans are full of theories, and I’ve got my own. I’d love to see Season 4 set in Spain or a Spanish-speaking country. I think it’s important the series continues exploring different cultures each season. Spain would offer a rich cultural backdrop with endless opportunities for drama and intrigue.
That said, I wouldn’t mind if they stayed in the tropics either. Places like Puerto Rico, Cuba, or Jamaica could offer just as much depth and beauty while keeping that sun-soaked, exotic feel that The White Lotus is known for.
Wherever the next season takes us, I’m confident it won’t disappoint. The attention to detail, from setting to character arcs, has been a hallmark of this series. No matter the location, I know I’ll be tuning in—and I’m sure many other fans will too.
