For many people, their yearbooks are one of the only things that remain from their high school years. That fact itself is why students often take hours to get ready for the most important day in all of their high school careers: senior portraits day.
For the Class of 2026, that day is creeping up sooner than they think. From Mar. 17 to Mar. 28, Cardozo juniors have the opportunity to take their senior portraits for free in room 150 in the main building. Students will have to get their appointment times during homeroom, and should go to 150 on the day of their scheduled photos.
Although the school chooses the time for you, appointment days and times are fairly flexible, and it’s perfectly okay to go during your lunch period, too. According to Ms. Mavromihalis, the yearbook advisor, only around half of the senior class showed up for portraits in their junior year. The rest showed up around October. Despite the large amount of people that decided to take their portraits in senior year, Ms. Mavromihalis highly encourages students to take the opportunity to take them during their junior year.
“It’s really better, because if you don’t like the ones you took junior year, you can always retake them senior year,” she explained. “It’s also more convenient.”
Bianka Ortiz, a current senior, was one of the students who chose to have their portraits taken during their junior year. “I feel like it’s less pressure, and it’s one less thing to worry about in my senior year,” she reflected.
If students are not satisfied with their junior year portraits, they can retake them in October of their senior year for $15. Not only that, but those who miss their March appointments can still take their first photo for free in the fall.
Still worried about your portrait? Here is a piece of information that may be useful: You can choose what you wear, and how to wear it.
Although the standard for female students is a drape, while the standard for male students is a tuxedo, you can choose what to wear. If you are worried about the drape showing too much of your shoulders, you can choose to wear it higher up. For religious students, wearing simple and black attire would suffice.
Senior portraits may be important, but they don’t need to be stressful! Take the opportunity to get your photos in junior year, and it’ll be one last thing to worry about in your senior year.
