On Friday, Nov. 7, Cardozo’s leadership class hosted a movie night for all students, featuring the romantic classic, “The Notebook.”
Although originally planned to take place on the field, the movie night was moved inside to the school’s auditorium due to the cold weather. The event was organized by Ms. Salisbury, COSA, the leadership class, and stage crew. Movie night brought together students of all grades for a night of fun, laughter, and even tears.
Movie night began as part of the school leadership’s initiative to create more engaging social events that allow students to unwind and connect with each other outside of the academic day and classroom. With midterms just around the corner, leadership wanted to host an event that was both relaxing and heartwarming.
Prestan Madrigal, a student who worked alongside other stage crew members, shared that there were some hiccups with setting up movie night for the school. “The main problem me and the rest of stage crew struggled with, trying to set up the screen outside due to the weather conditions,” he said. “But, we quickly found a solution: hosting the movie in the auditorium.”
Madrigal added that he was “proud” of how quickly stage crew and leadership worked together to come up with an appropriate solution that did not compromise the fun had at movie night.
Throughout the movie, there were moments of laughter, gasps, and a few playful comments from students watching several of the scenes. When the iconic kiss in the rain appeared on screen during the movie, the entire auditorium erupted in applause and cheers. Yet, when the movie reached its emotional ending, many students were seen wiping away tears, caught up in the emotions of the film.
Student Emily Martinez, who attended movie night, shared that it was nice to see everyone collectively enjoying the movie together. “When everyone got emotional and you could just see how much the movie really impacted them,” she reflected, “it was a nice moment to see.”
Martinez also expressed that it would be nice to see more events like this in the future for Cardozo students, and even requested that next year they choose a horror movie to watch alongside friends.

Alyssa Christi, another student in attendance, shared her favorite moment of the night was when the entire audience got up and collectively cheered for Allie and Noah’s kiss during the movie. She agreed with Martinez that the school should host more events like this for the students, but did say that she wished the ticket prices were cheaper. Students who attended were required to pre-purchase their tickets through the leadership’s store in the cafeteria. The proceeds from the movie night go towards future leadership events for the student body.
Movie night was much more than the opportunity to watch a beloved film. It was a shared experience for students to have together and the opportunity to bring the entire school community together for a fun and positive cause. Between the laughter, the tears, and the heartfelt conversations that followed, these moments have a unique power to unite us all.
