Roblox is a virtual game platform with about 207 million monthly active players, making it one of Gen-Z’s largest online gaming communities—rivaling Minecraft and Fortnite. Every summer, there’s always a new, trending game that stands out on the platform. This year it was “Dress to Impress.”
With the help of social media platforms, like Twitch and TikTok, “Dress to Impress” has become the hottest game among Roblox Gen-Z players.
So, what makes “Dress to Impress” so appealing to Gen-Z? Known for fashion trends, Gen-Z is always cooking up something new. “Dress to Impress” allows players to express their creativity through a variety of realistic customization options, distinguishing it from other fashion games on Roblox. With its large Gen-Z player base, it’s no surprise that “Dress to Impress” has been bombarded with success.
“Dress to Impress” also incorporates pop culture trends that are going viral. In collaboration with the music artist Carli XCX and her album brat, the game added specifically themed items that players could use to customize their avatars. Charli XCX’s items, along with the endless customization options in-game, became a TikTok trend among Gen-Z players—ultimately boosting the game’s popularity.
Along with feeding into pop culture trends, many video game streamers that are well-known on social media platform Twitch have begun to hop onto the gaming trend, as well. Caseoh and Kai Cenat, two well-known video game streamers, have been actively playing “Dress to Impress” on their channels.
Caseoh, who averages tens of thousands of viewers per stream, recently played the game live, allowing followers to stream and watch. Internet sensation Kai Cenat followed suit, creating outfits in-game for his one-hundred thousand viewers, many of whom are part of Gen-Z.
The game’s Gen-Z player base has created many memes surrounding the game. Pose 28, which refers to an awkward pose players can use while showing off their outfits, has become a popular meme on TikTok. At the recent Roblox Developers Conference, “Dress to Impress” influencers were able to get Roblox CEO David Baszucki to do pose 28. The meme has garnered millions of views and likes on social media, spreading the influence of “Dress to Impress” even further.
Today, the game remains popular, averaging 300,000 players each day. The development team consistently pushes out updates, which continues to keep Gen-Z hooked on “Dress to Impress,” and it doesn’t seem like the trend is going to die down anytime soon.
