As the fall season approaches, many people are looking for good TV shows and movies to watch while they are home. This season, many people are looking for the movies they watch to connect with the weather—meaning things like romance, action, or even a thriller during spooky season. A feel good movie is something that really helps you get through the cold nights. Each movie is fortunately available on streaming currently, so you don’t have to run out and rent a DVD like in the “old days.” Here are our current top five choices for fall films.
5. Matilda (1996)
Plot: A little girl who is extremely gifted has to put up with a family that isn’t that nice to her. To make it worse for her when she starts school; the principal isn’t kind and tries to make the kids miserable. Matilda finds out that she had the power of telekinesis and starts to defend her friend from the mean principal and parents. She then finds a teacher named Miss Honey and they start to develop a special relationship that helps Miss Honey stand up for herself.

4. The Princess Diaries (2001)
Plot: This small town, shy girl finds out she is going to be a princess. Her grandmother, the queen of Genovia, comes to tell her it is time to accept her role. Mia, played by Anne Hathaway, isn’t ready for the changes yet because she still has to graduate high school. She goes through many things like dealing with the people and the media around her trying to change her. She tries her hardest to not let anyone change who she is because that isn’t how she was brought up. She learns to become more responsible with the way she treats herself and the people around her with the new environment.

3. 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
This movie is about a teenage girl, Kat Stratford, who has quite an attitude according to most of her peers. This also means that none of the boys at her school like her, but she doesn’t care much. Her younger sister wants to start dating, but her father said she can date if her sister is also not dating. Kat ends up coming in contact with a new kid that came to the school who finds her interesting and that might lead to something more than just a friendship. The tables turn when she realizes she does want something more.

2. Tick, Tick… Boom! (2001)
Tick Tick… boom is based on an autobiographical musical by playwright Jonathan Larson. He was the brain behind the famous Broadway show “Rent.” The movie is about him going through life before he had all of the fame he has as a playwright. Through his struggles, he starts to get worried he made the wrong career choice because he thinks nothing is going to happen for him. He struggles with balancing his friend and family with his working passion for music.

1. Coraline (2009)
Plot: Coraline’s family moved into a new house that she isn’t too happy about. While she was exploring her new house, she discovered that there was a secret door that took her to the other world. This reality is similar to her life, but it isn’t all the same. She rejoices until she finds out the other mother (played by Teri Hatcher) plans on keeping her there forever. Coraline doesn’t want that to happen so she has to use all the resources she can so that she can get back to her real family.
