This fall, many artists are releasing their newest albums, bringing new music to all of our ears. Students at Cardozo are always listening to music, whether it’s on their AirPods in the hallways or on their commute home. Of course, everyone has their own original tastes. Numerous artists of different genres are beginning to release their latest works, and fans are anticipating the releases of their latest, new content. Looking at the latest releases, here are The Verdicts’ top 5 new albums of Fall 2023.
5. Doja Cat, Scarlet: September 22nd
With her first hit Moo, which became viral, Doja Cat later made three more albums that became major hits. Tia Tamera, Women, Say So, and many more songs have put her at the top of streaming platforms. She is now releasing her 4th album, after 3 years, titled Scarlet. She recently debuted her song “Paint the Town Red” from this album, which became her second song to ever hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. Doja Cat tends to get a lot of popularity from TikTok and social media reels and videos. Fans can listen to her new album, Scarlet, on September 22nd when it drops on Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube.
4. Olivia Rodrigo, Guts: September 8th
After gaining popularity in the hit Disney+ TV show, High School Musical: The Musical, Olivia Rodrigo gained a huge fandom with her 1st debut album Sour. She was nominated for 7 Grammy Award categories since, and won 3 times for her song “Driver License” at the annual Grammy Awards for Best Pop Vocalist Album, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best New Artist. Rodrigo has since written her 2nd album Guts. It’s a pop, pop-rock, and indie rock album. She released the song “Vampire” from her 2nd album, which debuted at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. Guts is now streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, Soundcloud, and YouTube.
3. Taylor Swift, 1989 (Taylor’s Version): October 27th
Calling out all the Swifties! Taylor Swift has announced the official remake of 1989 Taylor’s Version. It will be all of her classic hit songs such as “Blank Space,” “Shake it Off,” “Wildest Dreams” and many more of her iconic pop songs. Swift began to re-record her original music after the sale of her songs in 2019. The singer decided to re-record her first six studio albums so that she would own the rights to all of the songs on each album. 2. Laufey, Bewitched: September 8th
The Bewitched album, by Laufey, was released on September 8th, 2023. Laufey’s unique genre of jazz and pop is highlighted on her fourteen new tracks that appear on this album. Laufey’s new album broke the record for the biggest jazz album debut in Spotify history, which is huge. Laufey has made a major breakthrough in reintroducing the jazz genre to a new generation of music listeners. Her unique music has everyone enamored with her new album. It is available on Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Music for streaming.
1. Mitski, The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We, September 15th
Mitski’s new album, The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We, was released September 15th. The album marks Mitski’s seventh studio album. It includes eleven tracks, and features two music videos. The album is described as being acoustic and rural, although her music in general is seen as more of indie-rock. One of her feature songs on the album, “Bug Like an Angel” has surpassed 10 million streams on Spotify, already, and is the first in the album to do so. This album has been regarded as a wonderful listening experience, and her songs are seen as incredibly touching. Fans are calling this album her best one yet.
