25 years ago, Mr. Ciorciari — better known as Mr. C — transferred to Cardozo High School from Bryant High School. Since then, he’s become a pivotal figure in our school community as both a sports coach and a physical education teacher.
About five years ago, he was approached by Principal Colby about becoming coach for the girls varsity table tennis team. Despite knowing next to nothing about table tennis when he started, he’s been able to lead the team to numerous victories.
Mr. C’s dedication to his role is evident, as he is known for being a guiding figure for his teams. He takes his time with the member’s on his team, offering them advice on what they are struggling with.
A year after becoming coach for the girls varsity table team, he took over coaching the co-ed golf for Mr. Frazer. He later became coach for the girls team as well after the former coach retired.
Although he enjoys coaching both table tennis and golf, the latter has a special place in his heart. “My best friend wound up getting me a couple golfing lessons, I took them and I just fell in love with it,” Mr. C shared.
The girls golf season has recently started, and so have their victories, with four wins and zero losses this season so far.
Always seen with a hat on, Mr. C is known for his warm presence and big smile. Having spent the majority of his career at Cardozo, he has seen how it has changed better than anyone. Mr. C explained how this school is his home, and that he hopes to end his career here.
As for any advice he has for athletes, Mr. C emphasizes the importance of the camaraderie that comes with being on a sports team.
“It’s cool to do something besides just going to school and going home to do work, you get to be apart of something,” he explained.
