Cardozo High School has lots of students who work to accomplish their own goals, there are students in clubs, in programs, and many aim to keep their grades up. There are many student athletes at Cardozo, too, and Nate Beauchamp is one of them.
Beauchamp is one of the many juniors at Cardozo who worked his way up to improve his skills in lacrosse to make the Cardozo boys lacrosse team. He is number 13 on the team, and his position on the team is an attacker. His training schedule can change, but Beauchamp practices anywhere from four to five days a week.
“Usually practice starts around 3:30, so before then, we change in the locker room around 3:00. We go outside and stretch, run laps, and a simple drill, then by 3:30 we kick it off properly,” Beauchamp shared.
Beauchamp believes that the advice his coach gives helps him to improve his game. He expressed, “It’s a lot of conditioning that we just got done with, but now our drills are super helpful with sick mechanics and footwork.”
Beauchamp is motivated by his teammates and the willingness to improve. “My teammates and the competition, I always want to get better at the sport, since it’s my first year,” he explained.
Even though he recently started playing lacrosse, Beauchamp would like to continue playing in college. “I wanted to stay in the state, so I was looking towards SUNY Buffalo, Stony Brook, and Baruch,” the junior stated. “I’m definitely interested in going out of state though, and I’d like to do something with accounting, finance in that area.”
Beauchamp expressed a piece of advice to the freshmen at Cardozo, “Put yourself out there when trying to make new friends. Join a club or sport that you’re on the fence about because personally, I wasted my freshman and sophomore years with no clubs or anything like that and it was all based out of fear.”
“Coming to a new school can be intimidating, but don’t let it overwhelm you,” Beauchamp recalled.
