During the fall season, Cardozo’s Varsity Football team went all the way taking home a ton of W’s for Cardozo. Every fall, the homecoming football game is held and it is always a day for the Cardozo community to celebrate and support the football team. For Gilbert Flecha Jr., it was a day to be in the middle of the action. Flecha Jr. is a junior at Cardozo High School, who plays a huge role on varsity football as a running back and a linebacker.
The best things in life are earned, and football runs in this player’s veins. “Usually trainings are about two hours and we have stretches to start off, then we go into individual workouts for each position,” Flecha Jr. shared. “Then we end off with a group workout when either coach will work on the offense or defense depending on the day.” Flecha Jr. knows to always work hard and play hard and believes these practices will make him a better player.
The love for football came from the football games on TV. “I always grew up watching football and I always enjoyed how much action that was involved in the sport and I love the physicality of the sport,” he explained.
He also expressed, “I love it when I get to hang out with my teammates because we all have one thing in common and that’s to win as many games as possible.”
The future is on its way, and Flecha Jr., he shared that he would like to continue playing football in college and professionally. “I feel great knowing I’m on the football team because it’s giving me the opportunity to go to college for free on a scholarship,” he reflected. “I would like to go to either Rutgers or LIU.”
Flecha Jr. believes that if you work hard, you can reach your goals. “Work as hard as you can to reach the goals you want to accomplish.” Work hard, and play hard is shown throughout his gameplay on the field. Here’s to looking forward to seeing Flecha Jr. on the field during his senior year next fall.
