It’s that time again—when the tissues are out and the Tylenol is back in use. After coming down from the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic, many people have become a lot more aware of staying safe from harmful bacteria. With winter here and cold and flu season upon us, many people are looking for ways to stay healthy and prevent the spread of illness. Here are some tips and tricks to help stay healthy during this particularly sneezy time of year.
10. Stock up on Soup
From chicken to vegetable or even lentil soup (my favorite), soups are always healthy and very good to have during the months of Winter. No matter what flavor, you can never go wrong with a warm bowl of soup.
9. Stay up to date with Vaccines
Stay up to date with your vaccines, and consult with your doctor about upcoming or taken vaccines. Also, it may be a good idea to get an annual flu shot.
8. Load up on Vitamin C
Oranges, strawberries, potatoes, kiwi, and even tomatoes all contain vitamin C which can help boost our immune system against germs.
7. Sip on a Hot Beverage
Many people enjoy drinking cold beverages during winter. However, drinking a cold beverage outside during the cold weather can lead to a sore throat and even a cold. If you would like to drink a beverage outside, drink a hot beverage and not one that is chilled or cold.
6. Don’t Touch Your Face
And yes, even if your face is itchy. Dirty hands pass bacteria to your face which can lead to dirty pores and even acne, causing bacteria.
5. Use Hand Sanitizer
The hand sanitizers from Bath and Body Works come in handy here! With their unique scents, from Strawberry pound cake to Japanese cherry blossom, you can get rid of bacteria on the go. Always remember to use hand sanitizer that has at least 70 percent alcohol in them. Hand sanitizers are also small and can fit in any bag making them travel-sized.
4. Blow Your Nose
There are many people who don’t blow their nose when it’s stuffed, and it’s a bad idea to keep it in. Always blow your nose when you need to, bring tissues, or ask a teacher for tissues. Next to the front entrance of Cardozo, in the main office, there are individuals who have supplies such as tissues, pencils, and even Covid tests for those in need of such items.
3. Dress Warm in Cold Weather
Depending on how your body works, you may want to dress warm. Wearing comfy sweaters, jackets, and even adding a hat can protect from the cold winter air. Many people also wear masks to protect their mouths from taking in too much cold air. Don’t forget scarves and mittens!
2. Shower or Bathe When You Get Home
Showering and bathing are very important to staying healthy from bacteria. By showering and bathing, bacteria get out of your hair and your whole body. Which ensures you are clean, and protected from germs.
1. Wash Your Hands
Always wash your hands with soap to get rid of bacteria that lingers on your hands, as well as under your nails to those who have long nails. Wash your hands for 20 seconds to get rid of bacteria, and wash your palms, wrists, knuckles, and the back of your fingers to wash away all germs and bacteria.
