Every February, love is in the air! As everyone may know, Mr. Shin, a current math teacher, and Mrs. Choi Shin, a current social studies teacher at Cardozo High School, are happily married and have two children. The Shins are one of the several married couples who both work here together at Cardozo, and we wanted to dive in deeper at what makes their relationship truly special.
At first, Mr. and Mrs. Shin were pursuing their careers separately, but it turned out that they were going to work under the same roof. “It wasn’t planned. We both pursued our careers separately, and it just so happened that we ended up at the same school.”
Even though they don’t teach the same subjects, nor were they planning to work together, they know that they will always be “right behind” each other in anything. Mrs. Shin expressed that she likes the fact they work in the same building, “it’s nice to know that we’re there to support each other during the day, even if we don’t always see each other much at work.”
“Mr. Shin and I first met as colleagues” As stated, they were both pursuing different careers but at the end of the day, they are still working together just like how it first began.
“In South Korea during one of our summer breaks to visit friends and family. We started talking and quickly realized we had a lot in common.” There were many things that Mrs. Shin liked about Mr. Shin and she just knew he was the right one for her, she expressed that, “His kindness and sense of humor stood out to me. He has a way of making people feel comfortable and valued, which I really admire. His support during the tough times, the way he made me smile, and how we clicked so well. It was a rather a series of small moments rather than a big moment. Over time, I just knew.”
As time passes by, Mr. Shin seems like he never lost his charm, Mrs. Shin stated, “He always makes sure I have coffee. It’s a small thing but shows how thoughtful he is every day.”
This also explains that just the little things can bring so much joy to a person, especially the ones that you care the most about is the ones that will cherish everything you do. We’ve all dreamed of what we can do with our partners in the future, big or small, it’s the idea that you guys will be making the dream come true together.
Mrs. Shin shared her and Mr. Shin’s dream lifestyle, “Our dream is to travel more and continue learning new things together. We both love experiencing new places and culture, and we hope to make that a big part of our future.”
Mr and Mrs. Shin both work at a high school, and high school couples are everywhere, so it seems. Advice that Mrs. Shin has for young couples is, “Communication and respect are key. It’s important to listen to each other and support each other’s goals. Relationships are strongest when both people are growing together.”
Everyone can agree that communication is a big one for a relationships. There are many kids that look up to Mr. and Mrs. Shin so their words can impact their view on real outside life.
