Many teachers at Cardozo High School have committed themselves to teaching and impacting student lives. They dedicate themselves to hard work while trying to help students improve and maintain their best to build a positive relationship with them.
These qualifications regard a specific science teacher here at Cardozo — meet Mr. Munno, one of our school’s most beloved and hardworking teachers. For six years, Mr. Munno has given his best ability and skills to teach students. He has been teaching for eight years overall.
“I was in pre-med in college. I wanted to be a doctor originally but realized I enjoyed teaching more,” he said. Bio-med has played a large role in his career, and he’s able to pass all that knowledge he learned onto other students in order to pave the way for their bio-med career as well.
However, bio-med is not the only subject he teaches. “I teach biomedical science year 3: Medical Interventions and Honors/Regents Physics” he explained.
He tries his absolute best to make sure students stay on track with the lesson and are on top of their school work. What his students learn about in bio-med involve the fundamentals concepts and functions of biology.
“My students learn about how to diagnose, prevent and treat diseases,” he stated.
He also teaches regents-level courses, such as his physics classes, making sure that they’re prepared and ready for the annual physics regents in June.
While teaching bio-med and physics during his time in Cardozo, he’s also gained significant memories.
“My favorite memory from bio-med has to be this week, when students selected me as the honorary member of Aritsta,” he proudly reflected. Arista is one of the school’s most significant accomplishments for students at Cardozo, so being selected as an honorary member was a great privilege for Mr. Munno.
To Mr. Munno, being a teacher means he’s able to build connections and relationships with his students. He’s able to help students through their journeys and help them through their academic success, helping them learn at a reasonable pace and always being available to help students when they ask for it.
“In many ways, being a teacher is about being a guide, a mentor, and a source of support, but it is also about learning from the students,” he said.
Besides being an excellent teacher and helping students in notable ways, he finds joy within and outside of his classroom, especially when it comes to his family. He tends to enjoy a lot of his time with his family.
“I enjoy spending time with my daughter. I enjoy going to the gym and spending time with my twin brother,” he shared.
Not only is his teaching able to make such a huge impact on Cardozo, he’s made major contributions that represent our school as well.
Outside of Mr. Munno’s classroom, students who don’t have him as a teacher know him as an adviser to school clubs, most notably Cardozo’s Key Club. He was nominated for the outstanding advisor award last year in the New York district.
Mr. Munno has made many impactful contributions for the staff and students at Cardozo High School and will continue to do so, being one of the schools admired and respected staffs.
