On Nov. 12, juniors and seniors in the Journalism program and St. John’s English courses had the opportunity to attend a college campus tour at St. John’s University.
Students attended the tour with English teachers Mr. Schisselman, Ms. Lee, Ms. Esmail, and guidance counselor Mr. Bomer.
Upon arrival, the tour guides greeted the students and teachers to help show them the campus. The students were then guided into a common lecture hall and introduced to an English professor, a Journalism professor, and some students from St. John’s who would be providing the tour.
Students were then given the opportunity to attend various lectures.
The first lecture was given by one of St. John’s English professors. He helped educate Cardozo students and staff and provided more information about what professions you can have with an English major. Following that, he also stated his previous experience as being an author before working for St. John’s.
Following that lecture, a journalism professor took the stage. He gave Cardozo students a lecture about what skills he teaches students. The journalism professor stated he has prior experience with being a journalist and a reporter for several news companies. And additionally, he also spoke about his experience of his former opportunity that he had when he was in that field.
After the lectures, students toured the campus and saw all different buildings for the different majors St. John’s provides. Some departments were education, business, nursing, English, and journalism. For the education majors St. John’s has “mock” classrooms where elementary students come in and students can teach them.
Following that, for the business majors, they like to surround their students with the stock market and provides each student with money for all profits made to go back to the school.
Cardozo provides many different learning and college touring opportunities for the upperclassmen as college is upcoming. Not only do the trips provide students further education but it also helps ease the college decision making process.
The students who attended the trip shared that they felt the trip was a great learning opportunity to learn more about St. John’s and what the campus has to offer.
