At age 15, Charlie D’amelio began posting dancing videos on the social media app TikTok. Five years and over 155 million followers later, D’amelio has danced her way to the Broadway stage, making her debut in “& Juliet.”
D’amelio began posting on TikTok in 2019 and quickly rose to stardom. Currently, she is the second-most followed person on the app. The teen became famous for her videos, which mainly consisted of her performing different dance routines.
Before joining the platform, D’amelio had danced competitively for about a decade. She is trained in contemporary and ballroom dance. The young dancer also got the opportunity to compete in “Dancing With the Stars,” winning the 31st season.
It is these skills that led to her making her Broadway debut at age 20 in “& Juliet” as a member of the ensemble. She will play the “dance-heavy role” of Charmain until January 19th, 2025.
D’amelio stated in an interview, “To be able to make my Broadway debut – especially in the cast of ‘& Juliet’ — is truly a dream come true, and I can’t wait to share this experience with everyone.”
The jukebox musical “& Juliet” tells the tale of Romeo and Juliet; only if Juliet had not sacrificed her life for Romeo. The musical of Swedish producer Max Martin follows Juliet in her second chance at life and love. “& Juliet” opened in 2022 and was nominated for nine Tony Awards and includes pop hits, such as Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone.”
Prominent magazines such as Variety have positively reviewed the musical, naming it as “exactly the show Broadway needs right now: fun, exuberant, supremely joyful, hilarious, and excellently performed by a talented and diverse cast…The world is crumbling around us; we might as well dance to pop songs and throw some glitter in the air.”
