During the global shutdown in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many people around the world turned to their devices as an output to share various information about their lives. Whether it be to vent their frustrations or to pick up a new hobby, live streaming took off.
Live streaming has been around for quite some time now, however, it truly picked up in popularity during the pandemic and is now not only a good source of income for the said “streamers,” but something that they could build up a loyal fan base around to teach lessons or entertain. Many may have seen clips of funny moments from these people whilst scrolling through TikTok or browsing YouTube.
As live streaming has become a cultural norm, there have been streamers that have risen to the top of the charts.
Caseoh
One of the “biggest” streamers out there, CaseOh, or Case Dylan Baker, is a gaming streamer well known most for streaming gameplay footage and joking around with his chat.
One thing most viewers do comment on is CaseOh’s appearance, in specifics, his weight; however Caseoh turns the bullying into jokes and plays around it, allowing most people who watch him to enjoy his lighthearted commentary and laugh at his crazy reactions when he would get scared whilst playing a horror game or receiving comments.
Many clips have surfaced around him as well, specifically one moment of his yelling at a viewer that had called him a “one by one Lego piece.” However, on both sides, the light ridiculing and eccentric reactions are what keeps viewers coming back.
xQC
xQC, or Félix Lengyel’s streaming career has taken many different turns, with his early content mainly focusing on Overwatch gameplay.
Many of his loyal fans state that his breakdowns and rage moments are what keep them entertained; xQC seems to have little or no shame as to what comes out of his mouth, and viewers find that to be refreshing and also entertaining to watch. His content now leans towards more of a reaction streamer, however the same energy from his past streams and the same unfiltered commentary is still there for whoever wishes to face a more unconventional streamer.
Adin Ross
If you’re looking for a more crude approach to streaming, there’s no other name that’d be more hastily mentioned than Adin Ross.
He’s well known for hosting many controversial figures on his streams and, after gaining popularity, switching over to more unique ideas and beliefs, the likes of which got him “canceled” and also banned on a streaming platform, Twitch, many times. These sorts of beliefs landed him right next to other controversial individuals and streamers, such as Andrew Tate, N3ON.
If you’d take a look at his content on YouTube now, he’d seem to be taking a different, more safe approach to streaming with reaction content, but viewers have seemed to not have forgotten about his past actions. Despite all this, he’s still a popular streamer, and will likely be mentioned whenever the topic of inappropriate actions that streamers have done is brought up.
IShowSpeed
If you haven’t heard of this streamer, or recognize his face, it’s safe to say you are missing out on a lot. IShowSpeed, or Darren Watkins is a large variety streamer. Like xQC, his unfiltered personality draws in viewers attention, but he’d do it in a way that viewers would be unable to tell if he was joking or not.
Whether it be meeting fans while on trips, playing in sporting events, or just simply reacting to videos shared in his discord, Speed’s over-the-top personality draws in new viewers, allows for some very laughable clips and allows him to meet larger than life figures while still being close to his fan base and loving them dearly.
He’s also well-known throughout the entire streaming community and beyond, being friends with popular athletes such as Christiano Ronaldo due to Speed’s immense support to the footballer in his streams, and even collaborated on a song with another very popular streamer who Speed considers to be a close friend, Kai Cenat.
Kai Cenat
It’s safe to say that Kai Cenat is the most well known out of all said streamers in his list. Kai fits most of the bills that are essential to maintaining a streaming career and staying popular; being kind to others, having an eccentric personality, and providing viewers with rage moments that draw in more attention to himself.
Kai is also a variety streamer, and his most popular moments aren’t even truly with himself playing games or talking to his chat; but with figures around him. Ray, alias Rayquan Lee, used to watch Kai’s streams and was overwhelmed with joy when he realized Kai was in his hometown of Taiwan.
The two would meet and hit it off immediately, and Kai even went as far as to bring Ray to America to stream and joke around with him. The friendship the two had was practically inseparable, despite them not truly knowing each other at first. Kai’s generous and benevolent attitude has also got the graces of popular figures and pop stars coming to visit him during his streams, such as Mr. Beast, Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, Tyla, and other very well known creators. Kai’s content is for everyone, whether you watch his content for Kai, or the guests he has, he never fails to entertain.
With this generation likely traumatized from the events of 2020, it’s clear that streaming has brought about a new type of entertainment in the form of everyday humans living life to entertain us and make us feel welcome in an environment. It really make you wonder just what other amazing types of streamers there are to find.
