On Oct. 26, Cardozo’s NJROTC program attended the SUNY Maritime drill competition at Fordham University. The cadets showcased their skills in seven different activities, including a physical fitness challenge that comprised running, push-ups, planks, squats, burpees, and jumping jacks.
In addition, they participated in varsity unarmed platoon drill and a new cadet squad competition, as well as both varsity and new cadet color guard events. The competition also included an academic segment, where the cadets’ knowledge was tested, and an inspection component to assess their uniforms.
First Year Cadets
The SUNY Maritime event marked the first competition of the year and served as a fantastic start for both our varsity and first-year cadets. The first-year cadets excelled, earning first place in the new cadet squad category. Commanded by c/SR Angel Ye, the squad diligently prepared for their win, practicing both in the mornings and afternoons, often utilizing Alley Pond Park when school practice wasn’t an option.
Varsity Cadets
Our varsity cadets competed in academics, inspections, and unarmed platoon basic drill. They placed third in the unarmed platoon basic drill, a well-deserved recognition for their hard work. Like the first-year cadets, they practiced rigorously both morning and afternoon.
Some members, like c/SN Morgan Chu, who served as the platoon guidon, demonstrated remarkable adaptability, mastering last-minute drills. This year marks their inaugural entry into the varsity category, consisting predominantly of NS2 cadets. In the academic portion, our team triumphed, with cadets c/LTCDR Kellese Davis and c/PO2 Riddhi Chauhan leading the way to victory.
