Law and dance; an unlikely combination. However, for junior Anaiah Daniels, these two passions make up a large part of her identity.
Daniels’ love for law started when she was extremely young. As a child, she attended court with her parents during their divorce. She witnessed real lawyers in action for the first time and fell in love with it. “I found it interesting how somebody could advocate for others so selflessly,” Daniels explained.
She joined the law program at Cardozo to learn more about her passion, continuously striving for academic excellence to become a lawyer. She dreams of attending New York University in the future where she can participate in their rigorous law program to achieve her goal.
Daniels is also currently in Cardozo’s dance program. However, she did not start off in dance classes at the start of her high school career. She joined during her sophomore year, looking to rekindle her old love for the art.
She has had an “on and off relationship with dance,” sharing that her journey with dance began at the age of five. However, she put it on hold after gymnastics piqued her interest more.
After several years of being on a gymnastics team, Daniels realized it wasn’t for her because she, “enjoys adding artistry to sports.” Her creative nature allows her to truly express herself through dance while still being active physically.
Being a newcomer to the dance program, it took Daniels a while to open up in the new environment. However, dance teacher Ms. Blackwell ended up pushing her to limits she didn’t know she could achieve.
“She has taught me what being a dancer means and the confidence that can be instilled in everyday life,” Daniels reflected.
