On Nov. 5, American citizens stepped out, visiting their local polling centers to vote in the 2024 presidential election. The results showcased that Donald Trump won the nomination of the 47th President of the United States.
Election Day is always the day with the most tension for people nationwide. The nation is always split, debating policy, economics, and rights. Despite this, Trump won the presidential election with 312 electoral votes and 75,090,409 votes, while Democratic nominee Kamala Harris lost with 226 electoral votes and 71,794,082 votes. This means that Harris lost both the electoral college votes and the popular vote.
The swing states, or states that can be won by either the Democratic or Republican party due to their split views, that went red were Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Nevada, and North Carolina. This changed in comparison to the 2020 presidential election, where some of these swing states were blue.
In addition to the presidential election, Americans had the opportunity to vote on both the House and the Senate. The Republican party won the House majority vote, as well, with 218 seats. They gained one seat in this election, giving them the majority.
In the Senate, Republicans also won the majority vote, with 53 seats. They gained four seats in this election.
Although there are many Americans who are unhappy with the election results, Trump is set for his presidential inauguration on Jan. 20, 2025.
