Sadly, there are many teachers retiring this year from Cardozo High School and Ms. Klein is one of them. She spent more than half of her life as a math teacher at Cardozo. Throughout her years here, she has also been the coordinator of student activities (COSA) and a college advisor, too.
Ms. Klein had a great experience in high school and enjoyed having the ability to interact with students. She chose to become a math teacher because she was passionate about mathematics and wanted to bring that to other people.
When asked about what she enjoyed as a teacher, Ms. Klein said, “[The] interaction with students, forming relationships with students, and learning from my colleagues in both leadership and academic relationships,” showing love for the relationships she has built within the classroom.
Additionally, Ms. Klein expressed her complex feelings about retiring. “I’m great. I love the thought of not being here, but I don’t love the thought of not being here,” she said. She also mentioned that she is very proud of her career and what she has done at Cardozo.
“I know I’m a big part of so much in this building. I know that I’ve left a mark and done everything I can to enrich my life and the lives of others,” she explained.
After retiring, Ms. Klein has more time to pursue what she enjoys. She is very passionate about theatre—even wanting to become a theatre director when she was younger—as well as playing tennis, and traveling.
Upon her exit from Cardozo, Ms. Klein left a word to her students, “To some of them, I hope there was another side of you that I was not given the privilege to see. And to others, I want to say thank you for giving me the privilege to see the side of you that I did see.”
