Over spring break, 42 students and six teachers from Cardozo High School went to Scotland and England. The trip began in Edinburgh and ended in London. During the trip, students and staff explored many towns, historical landmarks, and markets. They visited Shakespeare’s town, Big Ben, Camden Market, and many more historical places.
Ms. DePalo, an English/Theater teacher and dean at Cardozo organized the trip this year. She did a fantastic job with it, and was able to get the students to visit many popular and historic places. It was an experience that we will never forget. Ms. DePalo decided to go with Europe when planning the trip because Cardozo has not been able to do a trip since before COVID-19.
When asked about her most memorable moment from the trip, Ms. DePalo shared, “I think it was watching how excited all of the students were by seeing the places we were going to.”
“I didn’t really have a favorite part of the trip but watching you guys,” she explained. She did share, “I really liked going to the globe because the tickets were a surprise. As a teacher and a theater person, it was a nice surprise and I loved it.”
Nina Lukin, a Cardozo senior, thought the trip would be a great way to see the world. “I found out about the trip through my friend Mia,” Lukin said. “I found out more of my friends were going, so then that’s why I wanted to go. Then I found out more and my mom told me that it is a great way for me to travel and see the world.”
Mia Mahipat, another Cardozo senior, reflected on the trip saying, “My favorite place that we went to was between Edinburgh and London. Just because in Edinburgh, the od- time rustic encapsulated like it. London is like New York City but there is a little bit more history and it is more modern than Edinburgh.”
Mahipat shared that when traveling, you should always remember to bring an adapter. “As well, watch your pockets,” she said. “They have a lot more coins than bills over there. Layer up if you are going in April,” Mahipat added.
Isaiah Flowers, grade 12, shared, “My favorite town was the first one that we went, Edinburgh. That had the most free range to go around.”
Flowers said he found it different from the U.S. because of the layout. “The roads are very confusing and annoying because they are not like the grids in New York,” he said. If there was anything that he could have brought with him to Europe, he said it would be his bicycle.
Gyasi Gosley, grade 12, said he wanted to go on the trip to see new areas he had never been to before. “I haven’t been to the other side of the world before,” Gosley said. “I wanted to see all of the architecture.”
Ms. DePalo shared that she, “Can’t wait to go again. Hoping for Greece next year and it was a wonderful group of students. I hope they had a great time as I think they did.” This trip to Europe was a very memorable one that we were fortunate enough to go on and we could do and see many things. It is something that we will never forget.
