Global warming is defined as the warming up of our planet. Throughout the years the issue of global warming has continued to spark concern. As the human population continues to grow so does the use of fossil fuels. Some of the most commonly used fossil fuels include coal, oil, and natural gas—burning them causes what is known as the “greenhouse effect” in the Earth’s atmosphere.
According to National Geographic, “The greenhouse effect is when the sun’s rays penetrate the atmosphere, but when that heat is reflected off, the surface cannot escape back into space.” A few of those gasses produced due to burning fossil fuels include carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, water vapor, methane, and nitrous oxide.
While global warming is not significantly talked about, it’s a major issue that needs to be addressed as it has negatively impacted the climate. Climate change is referred to as long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. It is also known as the rise in sea level as a consequence to the expansion of warmer seas and melting ice sheets and glaciers. When temperatures rise it forces the marine life to relocate and leads to a loss in species as some species will be able to relocate and survive, but others will not.
If global warming continues to persevere so will the issue of climate change. Climate change comes with a price; it results in hotter temperatures that increase heat-related illnesses and make working outdoors more difficult. Not only that but it results in the start of wildfires, and poses as a threat to the arctic by warming up the temperature twice as fast as the normal average.
As temperatures continue to rise so does the risk of more severe storms. As stated by The United Nations, “Global warming exacerbates water shortages in already water-stressed regions and is leading to an increased risk of agricultural droughts affecting crops, and ecological droughts increasing the vulnerability of ecosystems.” If this issue carries on so will poverty, not enough food, and more health risks. For these reasons global warming is bad for our planet as it deteriorates the life on earth.
What Can We Do To Stop Global Warming
To combat global warming we can save energy, recycle, use public transportation, carpool, waste less food, clean up our environment and speak up about it. By letting this persevere we are only deteriorating the human population. We only have one planet so we must do the best to take care of it. Global Warming can be stopped if we as humans take the precaution to stand up for our planet.
