Last year, students flooded the football field, eager to see the clubs offered by Cardozo.
October means that the Fall and Halloween are just around the corner, but also, so is Cardozo’s annual Club Fair. The Club Fair is a place where students are able to browse the more than 75 clubs that are offered, and learn more about each of them before joining.
On Oct. 7, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., club presidents will be the football field to provide engaging information for all students who are curious about joining various clubs. Students will browse the various tables and provide their contact information in order to join the clubs. Before joining clubs, students must purchase an S.O. card from the leadership office. Each card is $10 and will allow them to join the clubs they are interested in.
Many students at Cardozo find school clubs to be very helpful. Clubs can introduce students to new things they have never done or experienced before.
“I think that clubs are very beneficial to students,” said Julianne Ji-Soo Lee, a Cardozo junior. “We learn to interact with people we might never see during school, and there’s a chance to create bonds as well as be able to learn the skills that the club introduces.”
Students are also able to make new friends and socialize with their peers with clubs. “Clubs allow students to show off their skills and interact with their peers and other students,” junior Doralie Cham explained. “I personally like it because I am able to interact with my friends and also learn about things I had no past knowledge about.”
Joining clubs also have huge benefits in the long run, post high-school. Cardozo senior and president of the Creative Writing Club, Mariana Prieto, reflected on how being part of clubs helped prepare her for her future. “Clubs can help a lot with college applications, which I think is very helpful for students of all grades,” she said. “They can socialize and learn from their peers”
The club fair may seem like an easy event, but Prieto explained that club presidents and advisors put a lot of work into preparing. “We put a lot of thought into making the posters for the club fair. Usually, we include QR codes for the google classroom, the most important information about our club, when we meet and where.”
Students are able to make new friends and assistance when joining clubs. Hailey Wu, a Cardozo junior and vice president of the Helping Hands Club explained, “My favorite club at Cardozo is the Helping Hands Club. It gives a great opportunity to talk to different people that we wouldn’t usually speak with.”
“Helping Hands is a great place to socialize and provides a safe place where you can have fun and help those in need,” Wu added.
Many students expressed positive experiences and feedback about joining clubs and attending the club fair in the past. The event is a place where students are introduced to new subjects, new people, and can learn new things. They are able to join as many clubs as they wish, as long as they fit into their schedules, as different clubs meet different days after school.
To find out more information on the current club season, be sure to attend the fair on the football field on Tuesday, Oct. 7 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
