On Sep. 9, Cardozo’s Lady Judges brought home their first win of the year against Campus Magnet. While the girls put in an effort and teamwork, it was a tough game against the opposing team. In the end, the Lady Judges won with a final score of 14-1.
Lady Judges soccer coach Mrs. Varillas, was very proud of the team and their win. She also said the two captains, Isabella and Kayla, are learning very well how to lead their teammates to more wins and overall success.
Due to this being the girls’ first game of the season, there was no true “most valuable player.” Mr. Cascino, the second girls’ soccer coach, said that it was a team effort and all the contribution was made by all of the players in the team.
Coach Varillas said that this year, the Lady Judges are going to focus on new strategies toward winning by working on their environment and communication, as well as bettering themselves by practicing. Mr. Cascino added that their goal is to teach the girls on the soccer team values of team work and overcoming hardships.

One of the Lady Judges, Romona, stated that she was very proud of herself and her team throughout the game. She also said it was a humbling moment. The overall mood of the team was very positive, and she claimed that this energy helped the players have a good time on the field.
She said that the other team wasn’t the best team in their division, but playing gave them a good opportunity to work on their team’s weaknesses and improve on their goals.
While Ramona said there are things the team can work on still, at end of the day, they came out with a win.
Lisette, a defender on the team, agreed that it was a great first game to start off their season. Even though it was “messy” because of the amount of goals scored, she said it was a “Good game for them.”
Spectators who attended the team’s first home game of the season said that they enjoyed the player’s teamwork on the field. The atmosphere was very aesthetically pleasing and very joyful to watch. Many Cardozo students who attended agreed that it was a great experience to be there for their first game and how the girls’ soccer team was scoring left and right.
The Lady Judges have a current PSAL standing of 3-2. Their next game is on Sep. 29 against Bayside High School at their field. Be sure to attend and cheer them on.
