Walking in White: Bio Med Celebrates Medical Achievements with Honorary Ceremony

The Bio Medical program is one of Cardozo’s magnet programs. Part of the Davinci track, the program focusses on teaching students the importance of different medical procedures, studies, and cases, and preparing them for a career in medicine. This year, to celebrate the all of the hard work and dedication the students have put into the program, they celebrated with a White Coat Ceremony.

The idea and preparation for the White Coat Ceremony took months. “From fundraising, coordinating with faculty and students, designing the personalized white coats, all of it required a lot of teamwork from students and staff,” shared Bio Medical teacher, Mr. Munno. “But seeing it come to life for the first time made all the time and effort worth while.”

Along with Mr. Munno, Ms. Rothenberg, Dr. Rubenstein, Ms. Shen, and Ms. Zavurov were in attendance — all who teach in the Bio Medical program. As well, Assistant Principal of Science Mr. Cork was in attendance at the event.

It was truly an emotional moment for myself and the other Bio Med teachers,” Mr. Munno reflected. “Seeing our students walk across the stage, receiving their white coats, and realizing how far they have come-it was both heartwarming and inspiring.”

He opened up about how fulfilling it was for all of the teachers there to see the sense or pride, joy, and reflection that every student had when receiving their white coat. It was even better to watch the students celebrate with their friends who have worked so hard alongside them, and their families who joined that evening.

In the medical field, a white coat isn’t just a piece of clothing, but instead, a symbol. “Receiving a white coat was and is a powerful symbol for our students. It represents their dedication, perseverance, and passion for biomedical sciences,” Mr. Munno said.

“It’s not just a piece of clothing; it signifies their transition from students to emerging professionals in the field. It honors their hard work over the last four years and serves as a reminder of the responsibility and integrity required in the healthcare professions they choose.”

The white coat is just another reminder for the students of the hard work that they have done while in the program at Cardozo, and a symbol to keep pushing them in their future endeavors.

“Whether they continue their studies and enter research fields, or pursue medical careers, this coat represents their commitment to learning and growing,” Mr. Munno concluded. “It’s a tangible connection to the values of professionalism, ethics, and dedication that are crucial in healthcare and science.”
