The Disney Channel is something that was a part of every kid’s childhood and one of the most popular and successful kid’s television channels of all time. Even if growing up you weren’t a frequent Disney Channel watcher, you most definitely have seen at least one movie or TV show from the network.
In recent years, the network has had a shift in their overall style. What we remember about the Disney Channel from the past is no longer. Instead, the types of TV shows and movies they produce are catered to a new generation of watchers. However, one thing that I will always believe is that the Disney Channel was better in the early 2000s.
The Disney Channel first launched in April of 1983 and was created for families with basic cable at home to be able to watch family-friendly shows and movies together with their children. As years went on, the Disney Channel expanded releasing more TV shows and original movies for families to enjoy.
Not only was Disney Channel known for its movies and shows, but it was also the place that kickstarted a lot of very well-known actors and actresses of today’s careers. Many of those celebrities are Zendaya, Selena Gomez, Zac Efron, Miley Cyrus, and many more notable celebrities who have gone on to make successful careers for themselves.
I always loved the Disney Channel and every day after school, I always looked forward to watching the next episode of the shows that I followed so closely. Some of those shows included Jessie, Austin & Ally, and Shake It Up. These series were some of the top-tier shows made by Disney. As well, as the catchy theme songs made for each show always had me jumping up and dancing.
That is one reason why the Disney Channel was better in the early 2000s is simple — the movies and TV shows being produced had better plots. Many of the TV shows that the 2000s kids grew up with were just better with more in-depth plots and much better actors. There was so much originality with the Disney Channel’s old work and the creativity the network put into their shows was so entertaining. Every Friday night, kids can tune into the channel to watch an original movie with their family. And, the movies were great. Every movie had its own unique theme.
Not only was the Disney Channel most known for its shows, but it was also known for TV events that were usually themed for the holiday that was approaching during that month. One example of that was “Fa-la-la-Lidays.” This event was aimed for December leading up to Christmas and multiple Christmas-themed movies and shows would be aired including new original episodes and movies for the holiday season. I always loved the festivities that Disney Channel offered during each holiday season.
Another fun-themed event was “Monstober” aimed for October which would lead up to Halloween. Just like the Christmas season new episodes, even original movies would be released for the Halloween season. Some of the most classic Disney Channel movies appeared during the holiday season — like Halloweentown.
Disney Channel in the early 2000s truly made everyone’s childhood a little brighter each day. Just like the Disney Parks and Resorts, the Disney Channel was like a place where you can escape and live your fantasies. It just doesn’t hit the same as it did when we were kids.
