High school is the best time to grow and find many opportunities toward your goals and aspirations, and Bibiana Barrionuevo has tried her best to make the most of their time at Cardozo so far. She goes from doing her best in challenging classes to leading a variety of clubs and giving back to the community. Over the past few years, she has truly made the most of her high school experience, showcasing her hard work, perseverance, and determination.
For students, a balance between challenging classes and extracurriculars is not easy, but Barrionuevo does this with ease by pushing herself to success and towards her biggest goals in life. She considers Algebra 2 Honors her most challenging class, however, she has been able to persevere through the that challenge and shine as both a student and person.
When asked about her first subject at Cardozo, English is the one they’re most passionate about. Barrionuevo reflected, “I find English to be the most helpful subject because it allows me to structure articles and consider details that matter,” she explained. This love and passion for English have helped her gain impressive writing skills and other skills such as communication that she knows will be useful in the future.
Being a leader and inspiring others plays a big role in Barrionuevo’s high school experience, as well. She has taken on various leadership roles and responsibilities in multiple clubs, helping to guide new students and make the club a friendly and enthusiastic environment. One of her biggest accomplishments is her work in the Hispanic Club, where she helped the club gain more popularity and recognition.
“Helping my Hispanic Club be known has hopefully had an impact on the restrictions some Hispanics face and made the Hispanic community more prideful in who they are,” she shared.
Barrionuevo is also a member of the Green Team, Robotics Club, and Key Club; all of which have allowed her to meet new people, get out of her comfort zone, network, and have a fun time overall.
Her impact goes beyond just the school, as well. She participates in an internship program where she is an after-school counselor, guiding a group of young kids and helping them grow, have fun, and enjoy certain activities. Besides helping with the youth, she volunteers at a hospital, helping with paperwork and also gaining experience to help her prepare for a life after high school.
Even with her busy schedule, Barrionuevo also tries to make time for her hobbies and interests, such as journaling, cooking, and baking. These activities make her feel relieved from stress from all the work she puts in every day.
Looking more so in the future, she plans to attend college and find a career in nursing or psychology. The experience she has gained at Cardozo both academically and personally has guided her in what she wants in the future. “Many teachers have helped me progress, raise my grades, and plan better for my future,” she mentioned.
Their biggest piece of advice for freshmen? “Stay dedicated throughout high school, don’t wait until the last minute, and start building your achievements early,” she explained.
