Sukhpreet Arora is a determined and talented athlete at Cardozo High School. She plays as a center-back for the girls’ varsity soccer team and also competes for the school’s girls’ wrestling team.
Beyond her athletic accomplishments, Arora has played an important role in organizing and promoting various events for her soccer team. She was instrumental in the success of the breast cancer fundraiser, overseeing social media marketing, raising awareness, and driving donations. Additionally, she helped organize the annual soccer merchandise fundraiser, which helped its success.
Arora also manages her team’s social media account, where she posts game day highlights and player spotlights. This experience has further fueled her growing interest in marketing, as she gains skills in the world of sports and digital media.
Outside of school, Arora works as a social media intern for Sunnyside Shines, a Business Improvement District that helps small businesses grow. Her role involves assisting local businesses with social media marketing and email campaigns, teaching them how to create appealing content, increase their online popularity, and connect with their audience.
One of the highlights of her internship was organizing the Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, which featured a guest speaker and choir performance. This event brought together people from diverse ethnic backgrounds, honoring Dr. King’s legacy and promoting unity. Through this experience, Arora has expanded her network and strengthened her marketing skills.
Additionally, on weekends, Arora works as a hostess at a children’s party event studio, where she helps create experiences for kids’ birthdays. Her boss, Latha, has become a mentor to her, helping develop her leadership, responsibility, and professionalism skills, which have made this job even more meaningful.
In her free time, Arora enjoys crocheting, reading, pottery, and painting. She also teaches crochet classes to children, helping them build patience and confidence while mastering a new skill. Watching her students’ excitement when they create something of their own is incredibly rewarding for her.
Arora enjoys gifting her handmade crochet items to friends and family, making her hobby even more personal and meaningful.
After graduation, Arora plans to attend a two-year college before transferring to a four-year university, where she intends to major in marketing and advertising. While she once considered pursuing a career in law, her internship experience sparked her passion for marketing and branding, leading her to pursue a different path in the world of business.
Arora describes her time at Cardozo as amazing and full of valuable experiences, friendships, and personal growth.
Some of her most memorable moments come from her time with the soccer team. During her first season, she spent a lot of time on the bench, which she found frustrating. However, those moments turned out to be the building blocks of some of her closest friendships. By her second season, she earned more playing time. She is especially grateful for her senior teammates, who served as mentors and role models.
In addition, her advice for younger students is to focus on what truly interests them rather than trying to do everything at once. While it’s easy to get involved in every club or activity, it’s more important to invest time and energy in what truly excites you. She encourages freshmen to seek out peers who inspire them to grow and push them to be better.
