This album of his, is a conclusion to his trilogy that began with “After Hours” and “Dawn FM.” The songs are a focus on his personal experiences, reflecting on his life as a celebrity, which includes his hardships. A main experience that influenced this new album was when he had lost his voice during one of his concerts, causing him to cancel the show right in the middle. He received a lot of backlash for this, which inspired the track, “I Can’t F**king Sing.”
Trying something new, The Weeknd decided to also mix genres such as Brazilian funk, synth-pop and hip hop along with his iconic R&B. Featuring well known artists such as Lana Del Rey, Travis Scott, and Anitta, some of the tracks in the album are a reflection of some of his past hits.
For example, his song “Cry for Me” is a direct reflection of his past song “Save Your Tears.” Diving deeper into the two songs, “Cry for Me” echoes similar themes of heartbreak and emotional vulnerability, but with a fresh perspective.
The same thing occurred with “Open Hearts” and his other past song “Heartless.” A similar pattern emerges with “Open Hearts,” which mirrors the energy and message of his previous song. While “Save Your Tears” and “Heartless” explored loss and detachment, their newer counterparts delve deeper into his personal growth and the aftermath of those emotions, showcasing his evolution as both an artist and a lyricist.
Although this may be his last album under the stage name The Weeknd, he still has not said anything about quitting in the slightest. As such, he plans to go on tour, his tour dates and tickets already being available. With many of the dates having Playboi Carti featured, to which has fans going feral over tickets. Especially as the standard ticket for his planned tours are being sold at about $150. However for true XO fans, nothing is more important than seeing The Weeknd for the last time.
