At the start of every new year, the most anticipated events in pop culture are award shows. These award shows include the BAFTA awards, the Grammys, the Golden Globes, and many more award shows. However, the award show event that sticks out the most to those who love cinema is the Oscars.
This will be the 97th year for the Oscars. What we know so far is that the 97th Academy Awards will be taking place on Sunday, Mar. 2, and will be hosted by talk-show host and comedian Conan O’Brien. It will also be held at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
There will be many contenders who will present the nominees, both former and rising stars. The conversations about it revolve around actress Rachel Sennott, and SNL cast member and actor Bowen Yang. This has raised a lot of excitement on social media. Both actors will be paired up to present the nominees of certain categories.
There have been claims that the 2025 Oscars may feel much different than the 2024 Oscars. This is due to the Los Angeles Palisades wildfire, which has caused many celebrities to lose their homes and all of their belongings. As a result, some of these celebrities will not be attending the Oscars at all.
With this year’s nominations, there has also been a load of controversy surrounding snubs and massive nominations for films. Many people are arguing against these nominations since they were announced on Jan. 17.
Emilia Perez emerged like a rumble, receiving a total of 13 nominations. This is the most nominations a film has received this year, and it’s also on the list of the most Oscar nominated movies of all time. However, it caused a lot of controversy on social media, because many people have criticized the film for being offensive towards cultural authenticity. Others say that it is not good trans representation.
In regards to the prodigious amount of nominations for Emilia Perez and the social media scandals it’s caused, many people are upset over the snub of the 2024 movie Challengers. Released in April starring Zendaya, the film surprisingly did not gain any Oscar nominations, despite being a successful 2024 film.

In accordance, many other popular movies have been nominated as well. Some of the most popular movies of 2024 that are nominated are A Complete Unknown, Wicked, and Dune: Part 2.
Most of the talks at the Oscars are usually about best picture. The nominated films for best picture are Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, I’m Still Here, Nickel Boys, The Substance, Wicked, and Emilia Perez.
With a lot of controversy surrounding certain nominated movies, people have also made hopes and predictions for “Best Picture” win. Most viewers of the Oscars, in accordance with social media and critic reviews, have made predictions and hope that best picture will be awarded to either “Anora” or “The Brutalist”.
Many other popular nomination categories include “Best Actor/Actress,” “Best Cinematography,” “Best Film Editing,” “Best Director,” and “Best Adapted Screenplay.” There are many more categories, but these are the most popularized categories that viewers look forward to the most.
