Cardozo Boys Indoor Track is all about constant hard work and effort. This new season is all about new beginnings, as each year new improvements are to be made. New track teammates join with different skill sets.
The boys’ track Coach, Mr. Goldman, looks to bring out the best version of all his runners. He wants them to come ready to work nonstop and train, as he believes the only way to see growth is through putting in the effort. The fruits of the runner’s labor will be evident through hard work.
Mr. Goldman is someone who believes in all his runners, no matter how fast or slow they may be. He claimed that there is potential in everyone, you have to be willing to put in the work. He also has high expectations for the 2024-2025 season.
“My expectations going into the season are to not only make borough champs, but making sure that we have teams and relays that qualify for city championships and make the times necessary to be competitive within the entire city,” he shared.
Within a track team, there will be obvious runners who are faster than others. This may pose a problem when it comes to managing all of the runners. However, this is not the case for Goldman. He stated, “You get to pick and group people with the same ability. Running with people at your level will naturally make you want to run harder and faster.”
On top of this, Mr. Goldman has to also manage all of the different personalities on the team. “Different people bring out the best in each other and vice versa,” he said. “You have to consider that when breaking up your groups. Sometimes it makes more sense to put a faster person in a slower group if they will get more out of that group.”
Baila Jalloh, a junior sprinter, began running track due to his uncle, who had a passion for track. His goal entering this season is to improve on his times to try and make it to the city championship.
“I am trying to get a 10 second 100 meter dash to get me one step closer to getting into the city championship race,” Jalloh said.
Good luck to the Boys’ Indoor Track team this season and good luck on their goal of borough championships.
