Music is something that resonates with people across the globe. It can bring comfort, peace, and deep meaning, especially through its lyrics. Today, the world of music is diverse and unique, offering an endless choice of styles to explore, from rap and rock to pop and electronic genres. There truly is a type of music for everyone to enjoy.
Cardozo High School reflects this diversity, and with new music being released every year, it’s interesting to discover what students are listening to. Each individual has their musical preferences.
When asked about her favorite genre, Kennedy Carter responded, “Probably R&B or Rap.” Rhythms and Blues, known as R&B, originated in the 1940s and is closely related to jazz, soul, and gospel. Carter went on to explain what draws her to R&B: “The tone and the lyrics.”
Fellow student Olanna Iwuanyanwu, a senior, echoed this sentiment, stating her preference for “R&B and Rap.” When asked to name her favorite artist, she said, “It would have to be Drake or SZA.”
Many students shared their thoughts on music, including Keyana Simmons, a junior who expressed her love for alternative music. She noted, “I just find it really relaxing; if you’re in a peaceful place, it’s calming.” Simmons revealed that her current favorite artist is Tyler, the Creator, adding, “He has always been my favorite.”
Pop music also has a dedicated fanbase, as highlighted by senior Dorien Alexander. He described pop’s appeal: “It’s very different. Not everyone listens to it because it’s the type of music you have to get into, but once you’re into it, you know you like it.”
For many, music serves as a perfect backdrop for dancing and enjoying a lively atmosphere. Senior Arianna Rainford shared her preference for hip hop, stating, “I like hip hop because it gets the body moving when I work out. I enjoy listening to it because it makes me feel better.” Music plays a significant role in dancing, where one must match the tempo and rhythm to truly enjoy the experience.
The vast variety of musical genres ensures that there is something for everyone. Whether you prefer pop, rock, or R&B, each style offers a unique experience, catering to our diverse tastes and preferences.
