Isaiah Garraud is a junior at Cardozo High School and one of the many dedicated student-athletes at the school. He plays as a defensive back on the varsity football team, having developed a love for the sport over thirteen years of playing.
For Garraud, football serves as an outlet for his pent-up aggression. He emphasizes that he would never intentionally harm anyone, which is reflected in his performance on the field: he has accumulated twenty-five tackles and one fumble recovery over six games.
In his eyes, the key to becoming a better football player is blocking out distractions and exuding confidence in his abilities. He believes he is the best player on the field at all times, regardless of previous plays. Maintaining an positive mindset is crucial for him.
Like many student-athletes, Garraud faces the challenge of balancing sports with academics. However, he finds this balance relatively easy.
“Football is just a game,” he stated. “Just play it; it’s that simple.” Regarding school, he added, “Just do it; it’s not that hard. If I get home at 6:00, I have three hours to complete all my work.”
In addition to football, Garraud participates in Cardozo’s track and field team, using it as a means to strengthen his football skills.
Looking forward, Garraud dreams of a career in the NFL but also has a sensible backup plan: to become a firefighter, a profession he finds both inspiring and athletic.
