Financial literacy is a vital skill that many high school students need. Knowing this, Cardozo organized a financial literacy class for some of the seniors in the graduating Class of 2024 through JP Morgan Chase. Along with this class, the bank partnered with pro-BMX rider Nigel Sylvester and his foundation to give back to Cardozo in an even bigger way.
A former student of Cardozo, Nigel Sylvester created his foundation to help students just like him. He works with his foundation as a way to unite diverse communities. To give back to Cardozo, Sylvester donated a recovery room to help athletes like himself recover and refresh their minds after a game or a workout.
Sylvester said that even after he became successful, he still thinks of what made him the person he is today—one of those things being Cardozo High School. Being an alumni not only created his career path for him, but it also helped him grow into himself.
At the opening ceremony for the recovery room, his mother was present, making the event even more special. His mother told ABC News, “Oh I’m so proud of him. Nigel has always been the person that likes to give back.”
Sylvester stated that he has been riding bikes his entire life and he fell in love with it and when he discovered that he can do it professionally, he was hooked and he decided that’s what he wants to do for the rest of his life. He was able to turn pro when he was 18 and his life has changed forever.
In the midst of all this, Hyperice became a part of his team, leading to the creation of the recovery room. This recovery room is just one of the things that Sylvester was able to give back to the community. The recovery room has a slew of products including massage guns, leg rollers, and normatec boots. This room is to be loved and cared for by future athletes and students who seek comfort and peace after a stressful game or workout.
