Benjamin N. Cardozo High School’s Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp (NJROTC) went to Francis Lewis High School to attend their army JROTC competition.
Cardozo’s NJROTC received a special invite from Francis Lewis and was the only Navy school attending. The cadets competed in new types of drill they didn’t even learn about until a week before the competition and they won third place in the Armed Inspection drill.
This category of drill consists of learning and remembering a riffle serial number and general knowledge; this section of the competition was commanded by the unit’s executive officer /LTCMDR Oliver Cordero. The cadets competed in many more categories of drill like the Unarmed Basic Platoon Regulation Drill which was commanded by /SN Ryan Palmares, a freshman and a first-year cadet.
The other three categories our unit competed in were Armed Basic Platoon Regulation Drill commanded by /PO2 Lynora Brown and Unarmed Inspection commanded by the academics commander /CPO Kellese Davis.
The cadets at Francis Lewis welcomed our Navy cadets with open arms and thanked the unit for going to the Army JROTC competition. The cadets had the time of their lives and enjoyed the new experience that strayed away from the navy traditions that are held within Navy JROTC competitions. The learned new drill technics from the Army schools that attended like Xavier High School—one of the oldest AJROTC units around and Francis Lewis High School which is the biggest AJROTC.
The cadets also learned how to do armed exhibitions from Francis Lewis High School’s armed Exhibition Drill Commander.
