It’s officially finals week at Cardozo High School, and students are filling up review sheets, and playing their fair share of Kahoot to try and receive the best grade they can. With the Fall 2023 semester coming to a close, students are stressing and studying more than ever to get those grades to where they need ot be. Finals are two days in each subject, which makes this week very important for all students. While exams can be stressful, especially with two exams per day, here are ways to prepare for this important week.
10. Test Your Knowledge
Khan Academy is an online platform that has a wide variety of practice tests you can use to test yourself. Print out practice tests, or write down practice problems, that way on the day of your exam, you’ll know what to do. You can even watch videos to prepare yourself further.
9. Pens and Pencils Galore
Bring pencils, refill the lead of your mechanical pencils, and bring pens. All these supplies will help you on the day of your exams. The last thing you want is your teacher yelling at you because you came to your exams unprepared.
8. Don’t Just Re-Read Your Notes
Looking at your notes is perfectly fine, however, if you don’t know what you’re looking at, then research deeper into the topic. Don’t just stare into your notes. By researching more, you can help yourself solve unanswered questions.
7. Fuel Up with a Snack
Before studying, make sure to stay hydrated and eat a snack. That way you won’t get hungry while studying. Many say that when taking a test, you might get hungry, so try to eat something before. Or, you can always pack something to have during the exam, too. But, don’t bring anything too messy.
6. Listen to a Good Study Playlist
If you enjoy listening to music while working, listen to a Spotify study playlist. This can help you to concentrate on your studies and not have you singing out the lyrics of your favorite song—opt for an “instrumental” playlist. Here is a Lofi Music playlist to help you study!
5. Build a Study Group
Contact friends who know about a topic you don’t understand. Make a study group, have video calls, and spend time learning with each other. Sometimes, it does take a village to pass a class, especially when you are all learning the same material and taking the same exam.
4. Play Kahoot!
Kahoot is everyone’s favorite study game, and many teachers use it throughout the year. Have fun on Kahoot, make a Kahoot game, or join one with friends, Kahoot provides various topics to study such as algebra and even chemistry.
3. Use the Internet as Your Guide
Youtube videos can help you study and so can other outlets, too. By watching videos, you can take notes on the videos and even review content that you aren’t too confident about. Sometimes, if you’ve been absent or you just fell behind in class, watching review videos can help you catch up.
2. Stay Organized
With so much information to take in for each class, it can be difficult to keep track of everything. By using highlighters, post-it notes, and even different colored pens, you can organize the important information from your notes.
1. Make a Study Zone
Many students prefer silence to be able to focus. Take a trip to a library or a cafe, such as Starbucks, to make a study zone for yourself. Or, even find a quiet place in your house to focus. Get comfortable, bring all of your materials, and spread out to get the space you need.
