As the fall semester swiftly comes to an end, students are left to think about their academic performance. Some may have done well, getting high marks in most or all of their classes, while others may have done poorly, and received lower grades in their classes. An interview with three students gives some insight into why their grades are the way they are.
Priyasha Kala is a junior attending Cardozo High School. She is happy with her current grades, and thinks that she did average this semester. “My grades were lower than I wanted because I slacked off too much,” Kala shared.
When asked about her highest and lowest grades, she replied, “My highest grade was in AP Lang., and my lowest grade was in in health, but only because I don’t do the work.” During this semester, Kala struggled to stay on task and plans to work harder, study better, and be more efficient and productive for the spring semester.
Catherine Lee, a sophomore attending Cardozo, thinks she did okay this semester, however, her grades were a bit lower than she hoped. “Probably because I’ve been slacking off,” Lee stated. During this semester, her highest grade class was guitar, and her lowest grade class was chemistry. For the spring semester, Catherine plans on studying more for her exams and getting more sleep. “I’ve been putting off studying, which is why my grades aren’t higher,” she explained.
Ellie Liu, a freshman who just started at Cardozo, shared that she didn’t do too well this semester, and her grades are lower than she hoped for. “I used to get all 90’s and above, and now I can barely get past an 80,” Liu admitted. Her highest grade was in global, and the lowest grade was living environment. “I feel like I can’t understand the material in living environment because of the new science curriculum, while we still have to prepare for our regents with older material,” she explained. For the spring semester, Ellie hopes to get higher marks in all of her classes, and improve her studying and worth ethics.
As the Fall 2023 semester comes to a close, it seems that many students are reflecting and working on what they can improve on for the Spring term. Here is to a more prosperous Spring and hoping that everyone puts their best foot forward.
