Cardozo High School students conducted their annual holiday show during school on Friday, Dec. 15.
Although this year was a little different than the previous years due to the auditorium being under construction, this didn’t stop Cardozo from shining. The show was amazing, featuring performances from Cardozo’s band and dance team. The show started off with the dancers performing “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey, and after this, the choir sang songs like “Under the Mistletoe” and “Let It Snow.” It was beautiful to see how even in a gymnasium, these students can bring this vision to life as if we were in the auditorium.
Speaking to some staff members and students about their experience with the performance, despite all the difficulties that may have been faced, they enjoyed the show. One student mentioned, “I think it was very good, especially last night was very good.” The Winter Wonderland show also held a production on Thursday, Dec. 15 at Queensborough Community College.
“Especially since we don’t have a stage this year, all the things we did, like the dances, the band, and the chorus, were executed perfectly had we not practiced on the actual stage,” they said. The fact that the students couldn’t even practice on the stage and only where they learned all the routines amazed us, and it’s great that they persevered through it.
Ms. Brown, who is a Cardozo guidance counselor, stated, “I think the holiday show was very nice. You could definitely tell the different levels of dances from the different performers, but you can tell that everyone worked really hard and the students really enjoyed what they were doing on stage, from the dance from the music department.”
“It was also nice to see some of our clubs involved,” Ms. Brown added.
This shows how supportive the staff was of the clubs involved in the show and how great they did considering the circumstances. Ms.Brown proceeded to say, “We appreciate being at QCC last night because it does allow us to have partnerships with the community, but it does stink that our performance had to be in the gym for the school day because it doesn’t give the students the real feel of the show.”
As we are all disappointed in the fact that there was no stage, we are all proud of our dancers, singers, and instrument players for still putting on such an amazing show. We are so thankful and happy to see what’s in store for the spring season.
