Bullying is an issue that has been going on in schools across the globe for decades. Bullying has a lot of negative impacts on students, such as affecting learning and their mental health. Many are unaware that October is National Bullying Prevention Month. There are many ways that individuals can help prevent bullying and the spread of the ongoing epidemic.
Bullying can be defined as actively seeking to torment another person. Bullying creates an unsafe environment in schools. This leads to kids feeling worried or scared that something might happen to them from another student, which disrupts their education. This month’s theme for anti-bullying week is to make noise about bullying.
National Bullying Prevention Month was established in 2006. It was created by the PACER Center. This month is used to educate kids K-12 about the effects of bullying and the effect it has on others. Many kids get bullied in school because of the way they look or act. This causes the victims to develop mental health issues like depression or PTSD, among many other mental illnesses.
Bullying doesn’t just happen in real life, it can also be done online. This is known as cyberbullying. Since technology is catered towards young people, they can consume hateful things people have to say on various social media platforms. It is accessible to anyone and is considered a method of bullying in places offline as well.
One way we can prevent bullying from happening is educating people who might not know how to handle certain situations. Treating people with respect is the first step to setting a good example to others. Make sure that people are communicating with appropriate language and be kind to each other. Encourage people to do what they love and never be afraid to express how they feel in an appropriate way. No one should have to change themselves for someone else.
There are many misconceptions about how to handle bullying. Telling other peers is not always a valid way to assess the situation. If you tell everyone about the situation, it can sometimes lead to making things much worse. Instead, those who are being bullied should tell a trusted adult to mediate the situation.
If you are someone who is an advocate for anti-bullying, you should speak up and try to educate more people about how serious it can be. One of the most important things to remember is to be an advocate for bullying. The theme for the anti-bully week is to make noise about bullying. This means that if you are getting bullied or have been bullied, to shed light on it. This could help many people who have been getting bullied.
