On Wednesday, September 27, 2023, the girls from the Cardozo Soccer Team scored a victory against Newtown High School with a score of 3-1. This was the soccer team’s first home game of season, and they started off strong with a home win. The home game was held on the Cardozo High School soccer field and began at 4:00 p.m. Prior to the game, girls stretched and practiced shooting goals. Half an hour later, the game commenced and the girls were able to take the victory home.
As the old saying goes, “there is no I in team,” and that truly comes to light when playing sports. However, it’s hard to imagine how it feels to be in the middle of the action. “It feels awesome. I love running, and each time I get put on the field, I always want to do my very best, I love my defense corner,” shared Cardozo Soccer player, Blanca.
Blanca also expressed that she would like to give a shoutout to her entire team, saying, “I want to give a shoutout to my whole team for always pushing me to work hard, and to do my very best. They’re really patient about it, they can be loud at times, but it’s understandable.” Blanca also shouted out her coaches, for always giving the best advice and believing in her and the entire team.
The team atmosphere seemed to be contagious among the players, as Ellie-Jade said, “When I play soccer, I feel joy. Whether it’s at practice or during a game you feel an amazing energy from the entire team. And although it can get stressful I always enjoy the experience as a whole.”
Throughout the season, motivation stays important for all of the players. “What motivates me to play is how fun the sport is. It’s easy to learn and I love getting to work together with my team,” Ellie-Jade also mentioned. “Whether we win or lose we worked our hardest and enjoyed playing,” she declared.
This month has been a great start to the girl’s soccer team’s season. Any student who has any questions related to soccer or inquires about joining may email coach Rocco at [email protected] for more information.
